I decided to join the Peace Corps to have the opportunity to directly impact change somewhere in the world. Here is the timeline of my Peace Corps application process. 

  • Mid-November 2009 - Decided to look into the Peace Corps as a non-profit job option after graduation and before law school
  • November 26, 2009 - Started my Peace Corps application online
  • December 15, 2009 - Submitted my PC application online
  • January 15, 2010 - Interviewed at the Atlanta Reigonal PC Office
  • January 27, 2010 - Nominated for Teaching English as a Foreign Langage (TEFL) in the Pacific Islands, departing in October 2010
  • January 28, 2010 - Received Legal Clearance
  • January 28, 2010 - Began the Medical Clearance process with physical, dental and vision paperwork
  • March 8, 2010 - Location changed to a similar program in Eastern Europe (EE), departing September 2010
  • March 24, 2010 - PC Office of Medical Services (OMS) received my Medical Clearance paperwork
  • April 4, 2010 - Received request from OMS for additional dental work to repair cavities before getting Dental Clearance
  • May 17, 2010 - Received Dental Clearance
  • May 27, 2010 - Received request from OMS for several additional lab tests before getting Medical Clearance
  • June 24, 2010 - Received Medical Clearance, with a G6PD deficiency
  • June 25, 2010 - Received request from Placement Office for more paperwork to update resume, legal status, and transcript
  • July 14, 2010 - Contacted by a Placement Officer for additional application questions
  • July 16, 2010 - Received an official Invitation to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine!
  • July 29, 2010 - Accepted my official Invitation to serve as a PCV, as a secondary school TEFL in Ukraine! 
  • September 23-25, 2010 - Staging in Washington D.C.
  • September 25, 2010 - Departure for Training in Kyiv, Ukraine
  • December 16, 2010 to December 14, 2012 - Service as a PCV in eastern Ukraine!
